THE EQUALIZER

The Equalizer is an interpretation of a wooden ritual mask used for invoking a life force of nature, traditionally used during purification rituals among the Gurunsi in regions of Burkina Faso. Triangles and squares are in vivid colors as a way to emphasize the power of a mythical entity whose role is to dispel negative energy for the benefit of the afflicted. The entity is depicted with colorful geometric patterns that are interpreted as magical attributes in the body of a descending bird spirit.
