SACRED ANTELOPE

$8,000.00
sold out

Sacred Antelope is an interpretation of the very important Earth-Human relationship. Such vital relationship is extended to the Human-Universe relationship which, according to Bamana, and Malinke Mythology, works by analogy and similarity. Regional mythology has it that in the beginning of the world, a deity in the form of an antelope taught humankind the techniques of agriculture, and in honor of this deity, people sculpted images of antelopes (Oryx, and Kob) that are used during ceremonies in the planting season.
